BrandingBlocks: An Isometric Visual Identity Project by Yunke Xiao

In this Designer Spotlight post, we look at: BrandingBlocks, An Isometric Visual Identity Project designed by by Yunke XiaoIf; the g0al of which is to translate various brand visual identity to an isometric building block.

“to reveal the value of a brand’s visual identity system and to reveal the brands’ iconic assets.”

Earlier this spring, Yunke started a brand project which he titled #Brandingblocks on Instagram. In this project, he uses renderings to extract the value of visual identities from 100 brands, then apply them to an identical format: isometric cubes.

The purpose of this BrandingBlocks is to reveal the value of a brand’s visual identity system, and to reveal the brands’ iconic assets in a visually appealing and consistent form.

Yunke has not picked out the various brands randomly, as the 100 brands used for BrandingBlocks will mainly be selected from Interbrand’s Best Global Brands Ranking 2018.

Yunke Xiao: I’m a 24-year-old visual designer and brand strategist from Beijing currently working in New York City.

Before studying in the USA, I attended the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, one of China’s best business schools. While studying business, I discovered my passion for graphic design. I decided to switch my major at the end of my sophomore year and enrolled in the School of Visual Arts where I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2018. I am currently a graduate student in the world’s first Masters in Branding Program at the School of Visual Arts.

After years of exploring the fields of design and business, I have devoted myself to the branding industry, where I can maximise my strengths and experience in both the design and business.
