Witness Directory (client website) , Linking Expert Witnesses with Lawyers – Logo and Icon Designed by The Logo Smith.
The Logo Smith designed a new Logo design, incorporating a themed pictogram, for: Witness Directory: an online expert Witness Directory, successfully linking expert witnesses with lawyers and businesses for over twenty three years.
This was quite a challenging project, but immensely pleased with the result, as is the client, which always helps.
This was a relatively ‘cheap’ budget job, but I’m still really fond of how it turned out, and that it’s still in use on their website.
I really wanted to create something a little different, than the typical law/legal type logos out there, and it did actually take quite a bit of time to finally eek out this combination of associations.
The initial D forming a page of the Directory/Bible (or whatever it is you choose to swear on), with the Witness hand placed neatly within the shape of the D.
I initially started the exploration looking at using a stylised W, but you can see from the image below, that it quickly took the form of a hand.
The hand wasn’t an intentional idea, just that whilst playing with the shapes of the W, it suddenly occurred that it could look like a hand, so that was that.
The next part was looking at how to contain the hand, so I looked at typical shapes, but again, this was more of a fluke.
Once I placed the hand in the lower right corner of the rounded ‘app icon’ box, and cut the left side off, then it looked like a ‘page’, which looked like an initial D, so that was that again.
Not super realistic hand by any stretch of the imagination, but I wasn’t actually looking to create something anatomically perfect, simply a clean and simple symbol that would be interpreted correctly, and quickly.

Fonts used for Witness Directory: Kefa II Pro Bold and tag-line: Zona Pro Italic, both purchased from Myfonts.

11. A new 24 hour interactive questions and answers bubble that allows us to help lawyers find the expert they are looking for and also help experts with membership questions.
