Thanks for the article - I had the same problem with the Visual Editor. It was a plug-in issue. Depending on what version of WordPress you have installed the plug-in will impact the Visual Editor differently.

To resolve the problem - turn off all plug-ins - test the visual editor - if it reappears then you know its one of the plug-ins. Activate one plug-in at a time, testing the visual editor after activating each plug-in (this step can take a while depending on how many plug-in you have installed).

With a prior version of WordPress I used to turn off the problem plug-in when I was writing a post - which would resolve the Visual Editor problem while I worked.

However once i upgraded WordPress 2.7- the plug-in that used to create the Visual Editor problem was resolved and a different (more important) plug-in was causing the Visual Editor problem. This time I will have to find a different plug-in that does not impact the Visual Editor.

Try the plug-in solution prior to scripting anything. And expect the problem to recur with plug-in and WordPress updates.

I just did a full compare of a fresh install on localhost to the live site. All files are identical so it must be a plugin.

Thanks.

[...] Suffer from VWVES? ‘Vanishing WordPress Visual Editor Syndrome’ | ImJustCreative Since scouring the Wordpress forum’s about this I almost gave up with finding a cure. Simply, for ‘apparently’ no reason (and I use apparently loosely here) the Visual Editor would vanish. Now it seems there are several manifestation’s of this. One is the actual Visual Editor would actually vanish completely, leaving you with just the Code tab.The other one, which I suffer from, would be that the actual Visual Editor menu options would disapear. So you still had the Visual Editor and Code tabs visible, but any way of actually selecting any of the (I will now use the abbreviation VE) VE options would be impossible, as there were not any to choose from.
