Logos
A small selection of logo’s created for friends, clients and ‘other types’. I try and not get too ‘funky’ or ‘loud’ with logos. I am very much a simple, minimal sort of chap and am happier creating a stylish text based logo. Of course it depends on the brand, the image and anything else you want to through into the pot.
There is already a overwhelming variety of Web2.0 ’style’ logos, with equally weird and unmeaning names. I try to keep my feet on the ground and create something more subtle where possible. I can create ‘loud’ logos if need be, but it’s not my main pleasure.
I get substantially more pleasure out of creating a logo out of a stylish or appropriate font, tweaking it, bastardizing it. These grass routes logos, that to a lot of people just look boring, but thats typography for you, are the mark of a fine craftsman. Creating beauty out of type and nothing else.
On initial look, my logos may not be utterly inspiring compared to what you may have seen on line. The point to remember is that I mostly have created logos for print use, logos that work well on printed paper, letterheads, business cards etc. That also work on the Web. A lot of web spefici logos are just too complex to transfer to any other traditional media.
I try to keep this perspective. Seeing these logos printed on crisp white water marked paper is just a sight to see, as long at the rest of the design of the information is equally designed with care.
The logos I create I like to try and keep to that philosophy, if the client lets me.
