Social Networking: VIRB is what I call a handy place to meet people…
Just signed up to VIRB from a recommendation from Ashley over at Upstart Blogger about some Social Network sites other than FaceBook and ermm, FaceBook.
This isn’t a review as such as I have only just started playing around with it, more of a first impressions.
The main reason for me singing up was to hook up my Blog to the VIRB network and find people with similar interests. I have already found group’s set up specifically for Wordpress, Blogging, Apple Macs (MacBook Air anyone) etc. So the things I am blogging about already have populated groups where you can contribute.
For example, I have rearranged my Home Page so that every new Blog post I make here on ImJustCreative, automatically gets updated and displayed on my Profile page. Pretty neat. People can either leave a comment on that post via VIRB or can be taken direct to the Blog.

Not being that familiar with FaceBook I can’t really compare the two, but one thing which is cool on VIRB is the ability to link your Blog to your profile and RSS feed. So you Blog updates literally are syndicated on VIRB, much like a mirror of your Blog, and plus the feeds are available as well, so this dramatically enhances your findability with people who actually share similar interests.
Having spent a few hours on this site this evening, I feel this is much more agreeable for me.
I did sign up to FaceBook about a year ago, but it has been dormant pretty much ever since. I just didn’t get on with it, and still have numerous Friend Request’ waiting for me to… accept or decline. Part of me is too scared to even go there, sure to be a mountain of invites and other ‘dodgy’ going’s on to wade through.
VIRB just seems to fit with me a bit better, can’t put my finger on it exactly. For sure it looks great, nice clean layout. Loads of customization option, just feel it’s a ‘cooler’ place to be. Shallow I know.
