The Non-Designers Design Book
I’d like to draw your attention to this gem of a book; “The Non-Designers Design Book” it’s the third edition written by Robin Williams who’s written numerous award-winning design books.
| Product details Paperback: 208 pages Publisher: Peachpit Press; 3 edition (21/02/08) Language English ISBN-10: 0321534042 |
We all know there is no short cut to design work; although some lucky people are naturally gifted, I know I’ve met them, but the less fortunate sometimes need guidance.
The book itself takes you though many design and typographic print principles which in turn can be applied to web design.
Each of the fourteen carefully crafted chapters guide the reader through different aspects of design; from layout to colour and contrasts. The book goes on to looking into typefaces including different type and placement.
Throughout the book there are examples of design which by itself could be said to be “ok”, but Robin uses lessons learnt within the chapters goes on to improved the layout using only simple changes. This is a valuable aspect of the book itself, as working through the chapters will enable the reader to identify troublesome areas that can be resolved through skills learnt.
Conclusion: The book is aimed at beginners and intermediate designers, but it’s an excellent read and a useful reference that will aid any designers.
