A little history history lesson
Taken initially one the steps of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. Whilst sheltering from the intense heat in some shade, a mother and child sat down close to me on the wall of the gardens. As you can see from the photo, the kid was behind the mother but started peeking out too see what’s what. Keen to not upset or offend the mother, I kept my camera down by my side but tried to angle the camera up to take some covert images.
I had no idea at the time how well they would come up, the expressions on this child’s face are simply wonderful. In the end I had a series of 3 or 4 usable photos that show this child going from a wary (I’m not sure about you) to one of a big bold smile who seemed to find the whole thing rather fun.
However, I did get caught out by the Mother towards the end, so to show her I meant no offense, I gestured to the camera and my eye’s to see if she wanted to see the photo’s for herself. Thank goodness for Digital. After she saw the sequence I could tell she was visibly pleased with the photo’s, just would of been nice to somehow provided her with a copy. Not to be.
But this photo is one of my more cherished photographs. Really was a case of being in the right place at the right time… and not scaring the child. Which I usually end up doing.
Photoshop
The only Photoshop work was a simple cutout onto a dark navy background. Although I made no colour alterations to the photo I did double up on photo layers, each one was adjusted by changing the layer styles. One was set to Overlay and the other one was set to Luminosity both at 100%. This really gave the photo a healthy boost of contrast and definition. Really highlighting the child’s eye’s and skin color.
I will be releasing more Desktop Pictures each week, so in time I will have a healthy collection, so do subscribe to my RSS feeds to be kept in the loop, or check back on my Desktop pictures page for new additions or search for Desktop Photographs.
