If you are as sure as you will ever be that you need a logo designed, and I look like a good candidate for the job, then you could just go ahead and fill in the logo questionnaire. The information you kindly provide here forms the basis of the creative brief; without which nothing much is possible.
The alternative is that you are tentatively making enquiries, and as such may not have all the answers that the Questionnaire asks of you. If the Questionnaire just looks really overwhelming, or you just need to check my availability, you can contact me first.
When you are filling in the form please do take your time, and provide answers that are as descriptive as possible. I cannot stress how important this questionnaire is to providing a solid base from which I will try to understand what you need from your logo and identity.
Even if after filling in the form we do not end up working together then the information you have provided will be of significant use to who ever you hire to create your logo. I keep copies of all completed form and will be only to happy to supply you with a copy for your records.
