Last night, being the 2nd June 2079. Eh? Well, last night, I casually tweeted that you can claim your Twitter account with Technorati. Exactly the same process and advantages of doing so with regular blogs. Twitter is after all, just a mini blog and still uses the same principles, including RSS.
Technorati doesn’t have the same effect on people as it used to, over a year ago I was a keen Technorati dude, always checking the stats. Now I’m not. Oh the abandonment. I signed up on September 16th, 2006.
Why Would I Claim Twitter with Technorati?
Because you can, and because of that, thats as good a reason as any. How ever, if you need a more comprehensive reason then here it goes.
Well, it’s not comprehensive, but this is the main reason I use it. Technorati keeps track of wherever the claimed URL has been used and thus adds an Authority value to it. Each time someone links to your Blog, your Authority rises by 1 point. The higher the Authority, the more people are linking to your URL. Which is a good thing, trust me.
As well as the obvious ego trip if you are popular, or the depressive sinking feeling if you are not, it helps you see who has linked to your blog. This is useful as you can keep track on who posts posts using articles of yours. Like a trackback, but this is a central source. I occasionally check mine to make see if anyone has linked to any of my posts so I can go over and thank them via comments etc. You don’t always get trackbacks, so this means you don’t loose track.
So the same holds true with your Twitter Profile/Account. See how many Follow Lists you are in that you didn’t know about.
It also means you can assign further keywords to your claimed Twitter profile and make it more searchable and findable amongst the Technorati surfers.
Ironically, my Twitter Profile page has a higher Authority than the ImJustCreative blog.

How do i do it
- First you need a Technorati account. Set it up, get appropriate advice if you are unsure etc.
- Go to the ‘Claimed Blogs’ section and Click the ‘Claim a New Blog’ link in your account.
- Enter the URL of your Twitter Profile account. Mine would be http://twitter.com/imjustcreative
- Once you have clicked ‘submit‘, Technorati will verify the address.
- Now you have to ‘complete‘ the blog claim.
- You will get a line of code to insert somewhere in the Twitter profile. There are two possible places to do this, either are as good as each other. The line of code looks like this:
<a href=”http://technorati.com/claim/yw7xpd825h” rel=”me”>Technorati Profile</a> - I added it temporarily to my Twitter Bio. So I removed the existing Bio blurb and replaced it with the above code, once the ‘claim‘ was complete, I removed it and replaced my Bio. OR you can just create a regular tweet with it. This just means everyone in your stream will see this line of code. No biggy, I just preferred my way. Of course. Either case, the code can be removed once the ‘claim’ process is complete.
- Once you have inserted the ‘code’, then you continue with the ‘claim’ procedure and follow Technorati’s lead. You can then configure your Technorati profile, add keywords to the claimed blog etc.
And that’s pretty much it. If you are knew to Technorati, then this is a nice way to get formally introduced. If you have several active regular blogs, then it’s worth doing the same with them. Claim them all I say.
