Type Hero #8: Panton Font & Icon Family by FontFabric

Panton 'Modern and Geometric Type System', by FontFabric, is another super font family that I have just purchased over on MyFonts.

The best bit is that the current sale price of Panton is a measly £18,00, compared to it's usual price of £179.99.

FontFabric: "The Panton font family includes 34 weights - 9 uprights with 9 italics and 16 icon sets as a bonus. It is characterized by excellent legibility in both - web & print design areas, well-finished geometric designs, optimized kerning, excellent web-font performance and legibility etc.

Inspired by the classic grotesque typefaces - Panton has his own unique style in expressed perfect softened geometric forms.

The font family is most suitable for headlines of all sizes, as well as for text blocks that come in both maximum and minimum variations. Panton font styles are applicable for any type of graphic design in web, print, motion graphics etc and perfect for t-shirts and other items like posters, logos."

For just £18 you get: 34 styles, 9 uprights, 9 italics PLUS a whopping 16 icon sets!

Panton is clean, nicely shaped lovely styled font, and in the thicker weights has a nice softness to the edges and corners. It's slightly narrower than the typical san-serif fonts, so would be good for longer worded brand names in a logo design, for example.

Type Hero for Logo Designers

Type Hero is where I pick out certain fonts and typefaces that I find particularly cool, useful, charming, endearing, value for money etc. For the most part the font choices will be geared towards styles that I feel would work well in a logo and brand identity design scenario.

MyFonts has become a steady source of font inspiration, so many will be sourced from there, but I will also highlight fonts direct from font foundries when possible.

Worth noting, I think, that all Type Hero suggestions are based on fonts I have myself purchased. I am indeed: talking the walk, and walking the talk.

Some of the offers on Myfonts are simply ludicrous. When you consider HOW much effort, skill, passion goes into the research and development of just one font, let alone a complete typeface family, it does make me wonder how on earth they can sell the complete Glober Sans-Serif Type System: 18 weights, for (currently) £11.60 which is 90% off their recommended pricing.

This is a great type family to get your hands on: a beautiful selection of fonts—I'm particularly drawn to the thin/light and heavier weights—for such a stupid amount of money.

Another fab sale offer, on MyFonts, for Korpo Serif, designed by Mateusz Machalski. You can currently pick up this serif type family, consisting of 10 weights, for just $30 instead of $150:

MyFonts on Korpo SerifKorpo Serif, designed by Mateusz Machalski, is a serif type family with a friendly feel. Serif style brings to mind egyptian or slab styles. This type contains 10 variants with two different “a” ang “g” glyph per style. Korpo contain Small CAPS in two styles. Broken details were made intentionally for better readability. The low contrast and high x height is perfect for longer text and Headlines.

Tend to find that finding a serif font that I like is usually quite tricky.

There are plenty to choose from, but I have quite a specific idea of what a good, useable and versatile serif, especially for logo designs, is thus it's great when one surfaces like Korpo Serif.

It has some presence, not too spindly or narrow, feels welcoming as well as having strength. Ticks all the boxes for me, and I've just downloaded it for a new logo project I'm currently working on.

Buy Korpo Serif, by Mateusz Machalski, for $30.

Great launch offer on Kessel 205, designed by Talbort Type, over on MyFonts at the moment. Pick up this great geometric style font for only $59 which includes 5 weights: thin, light, book, bold and heavy.

It's not a million miles off from CodePro by FontFabric, but Kessel is wider and has that tilted lowercase e which you see from time to time.

MyFonts: Kessel 205 is inspired by the classic, geometric sans-serifs such as Futura, but has shallower ascenders and descenders for a more compact look, and features an art deco influence with sharp points at the apex of many characters, lowered crossbars and an oblique crossbar on the lower case e. It’s a versatile, modern sans, highly legible as a text font and with a distinctive, elegant look as a display font at larger sizes. The Kessel 205 family comprises of five weights and is closely related to Kessel 105.

Type Hero—Madurai™ By Jeremy Dooley

Type Hero—Madurai™ By Jeremy Dooley

MyFonts consistently have amazing offers and this one for Madurai by Jeremy Dooley is no exception. You are getting 36 font styles for just $60 compared to the RRP of $300.

There is a hint Co Text, by Dalton Maag, in some of the glyph shapes especially the e which I feel is quite unique shape.

So for the $60 you are getting: Madurai Condensed, Normal and Extended with each having a full compliment of weights: thin, light, regular, bold, medium, bold and black as well as italics and non italics.

Some of these font styles would lend themselves brilliantly to a spot of logo and brand identity work given the sheer variety of styles available. Highly recommended.

Type Hero #4—Thirsty Script By Yellow Design Studio

I am that person that will often judge a book by it's cover, and the same goes to fonts listed on MyFonts. I am far more likely to take notice if there are some aesthetically pleasing gallery images to sell the font.

Case in point: Thirsty Script by Yellow Design Studio. I'm generally a sucker for lettering fonts like this, but add some lovely gallery images and you'll have me by the balls. Particularly enjoying the lime green palette, but also check out their great descriptions:

Enticing descriptions are also important: Thirsty Script from Yellow Design Studio is a contemporary script conceived as a marriage of elements from vintage signage scripts, Wisdom Script, Deftone Stylus, Lobster and even Proxima Nova. The result is a typeface with a ‘new meets vintage’ vibe. It’s friendly with an edge... a mixture of retro script, modern sans serif, and a shot of caffeine.

You can grab the entire Thirsty Script type family for a silly price $18, which includes: six weights from Light to Black, old-style figures, contextual alternates (for a slightly more traditional feel), multiple language support, and a handy selection of ligatures and stylistic alternates.

So for $18 instead of the regular $89 I see no real reason why you shouldn't purchase Thirsty Script right now!

Rubrik Font By Miles Newlyn

Rubrik Font By Miles Newlyn

Looking through my selection MyFonts Albums recently I was reminded of this lovely typeface family called Rubrik by Miles Newly. Since it debuted in July 2011 I have been regularly tempted to get my hands on it.

My reluctance to purchase this font is down to the pricing structure which I can't say I agree on. One font weight is $250, or the entire family is also $250.

I get that it's probably priced to look like a good bundle deal if you need, or are looking to get the whole family—indeed $250 is a fair price for a 6 weight typeface family—but this form of pricing just sucks poop if you are only looking for one or two font weights.

I don't need the entire Rubrik family and would be looking to get just a few weights, but Miles has manipulated the pricing so that an individual font weight is way out of my reach. This means that Miles has missed out on my custom, and probably the custom of similarly like minded people.

I spend a lot of money on fonts and typeface families so feel particular annoyed when this pricing method is deployed. Seems counterproductive and almost arrogant.

My advice is: don't assume people need an entire type family: price individual fonts at a more reasonable price.

But super nice font if you are happy to spend $250 just to get the one or two font weights you need.

Type Hero #2: Fonts For Logos–Appetite By Denis Serebryakov

Hey hey! Only posted my first Type Hero yesterday and then saw Appetite, designed by Denis Serebryakov, which simply had to be mentioned. Denis has also designed a much thinner version called Appetite Contrast.

Just look at those sweet sweet letter forms, those ligatures, the multilingual glyphs. It all adds up to a scrummy lettering typeface which is pegged to be perfect for logo designs, and other less useful design stuff.

Think I'm going to enjoy finding typefaces and fonts to feature on Type Hero.

You can purchase Appetite for $49 per font: Regular and Italic. Webfont versions also available.

Jocham Font By Hubert Jocham

Jocham Font By Hubert Jocham

Yo! New feature on imjustcreative: Type Hero—where I will, on occasion, highlight a font/typeface that catches my eye. I am always coming across typefaces and fonts that are just perfect for logo designing.

To launch Type Hero off in style here is the irresistible Jochan Family, designed by Hubert Jochan who started his own Type Foundy in 2007. These retro scripty style fonts are generally and adequately well provided for, but Jocham has that something I can't quite put my finger on.

By the way, Hubert based Jochan on his own logotype.

Jochan comes in regular and italic and you can download Jochan Family for a reduced price of $39, usually $78, via MyFonts.
