Yo yo! Really digg’n this A2 Helvetica Exploded Poster from PrintHandBook.com For only £12 you get this wonderfully artsy Helvetica print that is separated into eight segments which should look rather cool on your design studio wall, or bathroom if you perv over things like this.

The Helvetica posters are printed using Pantone 899, silver metallic ink, on 250gsm Burgandy Keaykolour stock. Each poster, as mentioned above, is made up of eight A5 cards which when combined—ensure there is a 10mm gap between each one—produce a poster that is slightly larger than A2.

As well as the Helvetica Exploded Poster there is a Bodoni and Cooper Black Exploded version. You can buy all three for just £30.

I have a heap of cool links and things to blog about, but this Toy Stories—A Movie Poster Experiment by Jim Tuckwell has been eying me up for about a week now in my FireFox tab.

Time to let it rip.

I am almost lost for words on how best to sum these up. I keep looking at the imagery and just feel these are bloody awesome posters.

The Playtoon one really captures the desperation of war fare, yet you know these are just green toy soldiers. You know that Light Buzz year is just a plastic toy yet you really can feel that sense of deep space, awe and fear in Buzz’s face.

Obviously the history of these movies is pretty intense as well as the amazing Toy Story characters being so familiar with us all, but I do feel these posters by Jim are really rather brilliant.

Dear Jim, please do some more.

Minimalist Pixar Posters by Wonchan Lee

Some minimalist design projects of late have been almost abusing the minimalist tag. In some cases good ideas but let down with poor design & typography execution. However, I am particularly fond of these Minimalist Pixar Posters by Wonchan Lee.

The focus and subject matter of each poster is clear, and in some cases raises a rue smile with wonderfully classy typography styled in the lower right corner.

This is a good idea and is backed up with solid design. I would certainly pay for these, and if you would too then you can buy them direct from Gallery Wonchan for around $25 each depending on the size: A2 or A3.

Very nice set of posters by Anthony Neil Dart. We have one poster summing up five phrases by Massimo Vignelli then a further five posters each with one phrase displayed.

The phrases showcased are:

One life is too short for doing everything.
We like design to be visually powerful, intellectually elegant and above all timeless.
If you can design one thing, then you can design everything.
If you do it right, it will last forever.
The life of a designer is a life of fight against the ugliness.

I am particular fan of # 5.

Never Kill A Client Poster For Download

Came across a post on a Tumblr blog, apartness, that fronted a literary classic. The book in question is called ‘Never Kill A Client” by Brett Halliday, and first published by Dell in 1963. You can also see a Flickr set containing this image.

It wasn’t the book that caught my eye but the awesome title. A title just perfect for some idiotic tinkering by this creative individual.

I doubt I am the only one with a cupboard full of dead clients–I think one or two might still be alive– and not to mention that the floorboards are getting a little full right now. I am happy to say that once I saw this book I started to see the error of my ways and I come before you to not preach but to pass on some valuable advice.

No matter how frustrated you might get with a non-paying client or a client who has stolen one of your valuable ideas; killing them I now believe is a tad over-the-top. I have started to explore less permanent solutions to my client issues, and am happy to say I have gone 1 month without killing a single client.

Never Kill A Client – It’s Just Not Cricket.

The brilliant and free Franchise Font by Derek Weathersby was used for the leader whilst Helvetica Neue was used for all other body copy.

No. I Don’t Design Logos – Ass Poster Updated

Due to interest in the previous version of this poster I felt it was about time to refresh it a little–not to mention address the minor issue of the incorrect apostrophe.

I have filled out the design with larger text with emphasis on ass. I think the reference to ass was lost on some; it’s a nod to some peoples perception of what competement logo design involves as well as reaffirming that the buttocks are indeed a source for all your logo designs.

Added a mono version as well for all you purists.

Coffee & Cigarettes Poster – An ampersand love affair

Unearthed this beauty on Piccsy.com Not much you can really say about this, the combination of coffee cup and cigarette within the ampersand almost looks natural. Really well executed, clean and simple.

Piccsy has a great collection of art and photographs, free to browse, but an invite is required to post and submit your own images. It is a site that has a large number of ‘erotic’ images, so if you are of a puritanical disposition, best walk away now.

UNICEF Football worldcup calendar poster by David Watson

David Watson, a graphic designer from Trebleseven sent in his stunning typographic football World Cup poster for me to share on my website. Not being particularly fond of football it would take a lot to get me to post about it. My first reaction was OMG. Colour, bold, lovely typography and beautifully designed. Then the clincher, the poster is all in a good cause.

David created the post to support Soccer Aid. Sales of the A1 double sided poster raises money for Soccer Aid – a British charity event which raises money for UNICEF.

The front side of the poster (below) lists all the groups, A-H so you can clearly see which countries are in which group. A calendar runs down the right hand side listing chronologically all the matches to be played in the tournament:
