12 LogoType Designs – Have you Seen These Series – Part 1 proved to be quite a hit, mostly I think because it was not an overwhelming list post but also included a varied selection of styles.
So part two carries on the theme of logos created from type using words and or just letters to create typemarks.
If you have missed Part 1, then may be an idea to head over there and read my introduction to the series, just so you know where I am coming from with these lists.
But to very quickly sum up, I am trying to find logo designs deeper within the interweb. So they are hopefully logo’s that you may not have seen before. I am trying to avoid sourcing them only from galleries for this reason, although some are too good not to showcase.
If you are a freelance logo designer, then hopefully you will also come away with some fresh views on using only typography to get your message across.
Have you Seen These Series – Part 2
The logos showcased in this series are type orientated, in that they only use type or sets of characters to convey the message. They are free of icons and imagery. This style of logo design is one that I love, the logos are message focused, they are bold and strong, yet they can also be smooth and subtle. The emotion of the message changes with the typeface used.
Focus on typography in logo design, guarantees, if you can pull it off, a strong and memorable message.
They are also often free of colours, usually one solid colour, or a 2nd high light colour. Clever use of letters, characters and shapes can create interesting and brand relevant logomarks. Creating a type only logo is a challenge and there is a fine line between a emotionless bundle of words and a powerful logo design.

The Continuing Story – Part 3
As long as there are type focused logos, I will continue to show the logo designs that really inspire and interest me. Part 3 will continue the journey with type focused logo designs and identities. Further posts will focus on specific trends and styles.
